coat hangers

James gave the commercial class an assignment last week to go out and create something neat and unusal/different. We were to take a random, but common house-hold appliance and shoot it but do something unique to make that product "not so boring". I decided to shoot coat hangers. I checked out a speedotron from glenda, and from then on I didn't know what to do. I attached my lens baby to my canon 20 D and began shooting....tthis is what came out. The only thing I did with post-processing was that I darkend the image slightly in photoshop. I have no idea how the neon colors came about...but I thought it looked pretty neat. My settings were 1/400 at f/4. ISO was 100.

This was a promo for chuck's class. No, I'm not happy with it, nor thrilled...but you have to turn in something. I had an inspiration "tear-out" sheet for this really fancy hot chinese tea...I ended up witth this. I shot this outside in he shade with my canon 20D settings were 1/60 @ f/5.6, ISO 100.

"mentor"

The two images below are shot by Ruven Afanador. A recent assignment, given by james, had me searching for a photographer I would call "my favorite". I remebered a magazine cover I saw and loved. I started doing research on the photographer and ended up truly falling in love with his ideas and images. The first part of the project (picking out a photographer) was easy. The second part was alot harder. I stumbled across a series of photographs on his website and started thinking about what I could do. I was inspired by his idea of covering everything in brown paper and cardboard. So I decided to cover everything in news paper (donated by Chuck.) I ended up with the above image of Katie Reynolds. I used my canon 20D, speedotrons, and a light box. My settings were ISO100, 1/250 @ f/5.6.

Concentration Assignment

This assignment was for Chucks commercial class. The assignment (client 2) was was to choose a model and do a on-white-backgrouond head shot. I approached t his assignment by asking my roommate to be my model, and went in and shot where chuck and the rest of the class set up the lights, reflectors, umbrellas and other photographic lighting. For this shot I used the Mamiya RZ-67 with a 150 mm lens. My settings were f/8 @ 1/60.

His voice to the world

I shot this with my Canon 20D and my lensbaby. My settings were f/22 @ 1/15. Iso 100.

"...He goes home everyday and sits alone at his tiny desk in his silent apartment. He bangs on the keys of a lifeless type writer about some sort of nonsense concerning the romeo and juliet of our time. He rips the photograph out from in between the wheels that hold the paper in place as his voice to the world is rapidly being compressed on a piece of art that few will see and the ones who do wont take the time to question. Smeared ink and other unmentionables are dried and have risen off the surface of the photograph. As I hold it in my hand, I try to make out what he is tring to release from his complicated thoughts, only to find that that day he was pissed...I've entered a war zone. But the fight is only against himself and the feelings he has for his unspeakable love..."

After getting in trouble for blowing up this apple, (and a few others) with massive force, by monica...I finally got an ok shot. I'm not thrilled with it but I was happy I got the apple stopped in mid air. I used a canon 20D, ISO was set at 100. f/16 at 1/250. I used a speedotron and soft box. and reflectors on the left side.
