Pearls.

"If my muscles hurt, it just means I've used them. If it hurts to walk up the stairs, it's just cause I've done it a hundred times to lay down next to a man who loved me. My face may have wrinkles, but I have laid under hundreds of skies on sunny days. I look like this, well, because I drank and I smoked and I lived and I loved and I screwed my way through a pretty damn good life. Getting old isn't bad. It's earned. "

as part of the assignment, we had to shoot on 4x5 trans. film. I used a Calumet large format camera and two broncolor strobes to light it. For this particular shot I used my 20d settings were ISO 100, f/11 at 1/125.

Pringles!

James assigned groups in class. In our group we were to design several different sketchs/ layouts for pringles ads. After we designed our layouts we switched with another group and shot their designs. Each member of the group got two shots to shoot. this is what I ended up with (with much help from Doug and Elisa!)

I used my 20d. Broncolor pack and 3 strobes. My settings were ISO 100 1/125 at f/22

Jack and Ellie

Throughout my Internship, I didn't get to photograph anything personally. An ocasionally "rachel, press the shutter" occured but I never got to shoot anything on my own. Over the weekends, though, I would randomly shoot whatever crossed my path. One weekend, I went and watched my niece and nephew for a few hours and instead of watching Jimmy Neutron with them (hints, to why they look stunned), I picked up my camera and shot a few photos.

I used the avaible light coming through the window. I shot with my 20d, settings were ISO 100, focal length at 49mm, 1/13 @ f/5.6

Dessert

Dessert
Noun

1. A sweet served as the last course of a meal.

As a kid, double popsicles always followed family dinners. When Chuck gave us the "dessert" assignment I knew what I wanted to shoot. I came out with this...

My dad's screen printing business is really unique and interesting inside. I really wanted tto take some shots of the "printers"
. every five seconds or so this orange light would turn on under the press...I thought it was pretty neat. I used my 285 for lighting and my settings were iso 200, f/5.6 at 1/30.

James gave the commercial class an assignment last week to go out and create something neat and unusal/different. We were to take a random, but common house-hold appliance and shoot it but do something unique to make that product "not so boring". I decided to shoot coat hangers. I checked out a speedotron from glenda, and from then on I didn't know what to do. I attached my lens baby to my canon 20 D and began shooting....tthis is what came out. The only thing I did with post-processing was that I darkend the image slightly in photoshop. I have no idea how the neon colors came about...but I thought it looked pretty neat. My settings were 1/400 at f/4. ISO was 100.

"mentor"

The two images below are shot by Ruven Afanador. A recent assignment, given by james, had me searching for a photographer I would call "my favorite". I remebered a magazine cover I saw and loved. I started doing research on the photographer and ended up truly falling in love with his ideas and images. The first part of the project (picking out a photographer) was easy. The second part was alot harder. I stumbled across a series of photographs on his website and started thinking about what I could do. I was inspired by his idea of covering everything in brown paper and cardboard. So I decided to cover everything in news paper (donated by Chuck.) I ended up with the above image of Katie Reynolds. I used my canon 20D, speedotrons, and a light box. My settings were ISO100, 1/250 @ f/5.6.

Concentration Assignment

This assignment was for Chucks commercial class. The assignment (client 2) was was to choose a model and do a on-white-backgrouond head shot. I approached t his assignment by asking my roommate to be my model, and went in and shot where chuck and the rest of the class set up the lights, reflectors, umbrellas and other photographic lighting. For this shot I used the Mamiya RZ-67 with a 150 mm lens. My settings were f/8 @ 1/60.

His voice to the world

I shot this with my Canon 20D and my lensbaby. My settings were f/22 @ 1/15. Iso 100.

"...He goes home everyday and sits alone at his tiny desk in his silent apartment. He bangs on the keys of a lifeless type writer about some sort of nonsense concerning the romeo and juliet of our time. He rips the photograph out from in between the wheels that hold the paper in place as his voice to the world is rapidly being compressed on a piece of art that few will see and the ones who do wont take the time to question. Smeared ink and other unmentionables are dried and have risen off the surface of the photograph. As I hold it in my hand, I try to make out what he is tring to release from his complicated thoughts, only to find that that day he was pissed...I've entered a war zone. But the fight is only against himself and the feelings he has for his unspeakable love..."

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it (anywhere i go you go,my dear;
and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet)
i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

As days passed on a family trip, I began to get bored. Riley, my cousin, was eating supper and I noticed the light hitting her face as she turned around to see her Dad. I grabbed my camera and began shooting.
I picked the photo as my first entry because I thought it displayed what I truly love about photography, amazing timing and beautiful light.
